Why Drumming Is a Great Corporate Team Building Activity

Corporate team building activities can sometimes be boring. Someone takes the microphone to talk about team spirit, which is then followed by a seemingly endless barrage of predictable activities that leave you wishing you had called in sick and watched a movie instead. There is a growing trend, however, that promises to bring more fun to team building activities - playing drums.

Playing drums may not sound very special. We see rock stars do it on TV all the time. But playing drums by hand - and with a large group of people - claims to be an entirely unique and uplifting experience. It perfectly makes so much sense actually. First of all, playing a drum can instantly make you smile (we have yet to see a very miserable drummer). It can instantly break the ice and make us feel more relaxed. Pretty soon, you and your officemates will be smiling at one another and having fun.

Scientific research also shows that sound can alter brain waves. A group of people who play the same rhythm for an extended period of time will start to share a similar brain wave state. This develops a feeling of belongingness and a strong sense of group identity. Plus, repetitive rhythmic sounds also have a calming effect on the mind and body. After the group drumming activity, everyone is sure to be happy, relaxed, and energised.

Finally, a drumming activity does not need long hours of preparation. Anyone can play a rhythm on the drum. No one will feel alienated or intimidated by the activity. Everyone will feel confident and eager to do their part. Indeed, drumming is a great way to forge a bond between co-workers.
