Get musical inspiration from TV shows
If you're musically minded, you'll no doubt be aware of the vast array of instruments that there are out there. The list of those that fall into the percussion category, for example, is a long and varied one. Should you want to try out something a little different, head over to a website that specializes in darbukas. These are goblet shaped hand drums which produce distinctive sounds dependant upon the material used in their construction - which is primarily metal, wood or fibre glass. They are commonly heard in music which has its roots in the Middle East. Purchase one of these and your music will have a whole new feel to it. Take a look at some TV shows for inspiration, if you're thinking of set up a band and are yet undecided upon your choice of instrumentation.
If you're musically oriented you probably know exactly what you need. If it's a keyboard you're after, tune into a concert featuring an artist or band that are not unlike yourselves. Make a note of what they are using. Is it a basic piano or an electronic Roland? Both produce completely different types of sound. There will undoubtedly be closeups of not only the artists, but you'll also get to see what they've chosen to perform with. Miss something? Well, record it and play it back afterwards at a slower speed. The music might not sound so good, but at least you'll know what you need to gives yours that extra lift!
