Equipment for a Simple Home Studio

With today's advanced technology, home recording studios are beginning to gain popularity. Indeed, many bands and solo artists prefer putting up their own home studio because it saves costs and provides them the ability to have recording sessions anytime. If you are an aspiring musician, you might want to build one. You only need basic equipment to make recordings with the same quality as that produced from a high-priced studio.

First, select a studio space in your home. A spare room or a basement is excellent. Soundproof the room by closing the windows, putting up curtains, and covering the walls with acoustic foam. Next, consider buying a condenser microphone instead of a dynamic microphone. It has a wide range of frequencies and is able to pick up sounds quicker than a dynamic microphone. It can also pick out sounds around the room more clearly, which means that you do not have to place the gadget so close to your acoustic guitar, violin, or darkuba.

Next, purchase a mid-priced computer and recording software to be installed in it. This software allows you to record sounds, mix audio frequencies, introduce special effects, and do other recording functions. Software can vastly differ in price, features, and capability, thus you have to choose one that fits your needs. You will also require other equipment such as amplifiers for electric musical instruments, headphones so you can clearly hear the output, dynamic microphones to capture more focused sounds, or an analogue mixing console if you find clicking between the software's functions tedious. Finally, you need high-quality studio speakers so you can clearly hear the range of bass, mid-tones, and high-frequency notes of a recording. These differ from stereo speakers because they are designed to deliver the recorded sound without alteration.
