Simple Ways to Avoid Holiday Weight Gain

The most festive time of the year is here again! Pretty sure the past couple of weeks has been the busiest for you juggling those year end reports and projects and running a couple of household errands. Despite it being so hectic, you still managed to put a smile on your face.

Christmas has always been one of your favourite holidays. If you come to think of it, who does not love it? You get lots of presents, you get reunited with your old friends and your family and you get a few days off work. The only thing that you really do not like about this time is the fact that you gain a couple of pounds from all of those parties that you attend. Luckily, this year, you do not have to experience that again because this article is going to provide you with a couple of tips that you can do to avoid acquiring those unwanted holiday weight.

  • Try to ruin your appetite a few hours before you go to a big party. Fix yourself a nice peanut butter sandwich, munch on your favourite nuts or help yourself with a piece of apple. Loading your stomach with protein rich food can take the edge off your hunger and can keep you feeling stuffed for a couple of hours which will help you avoid from feasting on those scrumptious food on the buffet table.
  • Work out a lot harder if you really cannot control your appetite. It is certainly hard to pass up on those lovely roasted turkey legs and those delightful concoctions so to make up for your diet break, be sure to sweat all of those calories out. Since it can be a bit too inconvenient to go out for a jog, maybe you could put on a pair of your fashion leotards play some Eastern Rhythm music and dance all of those pounds off. Not only is this sound great for a great work out but it can also help you sooth and relax your mind.
  • Keep yourself hydrated. This step is not only helpful to fight skin dryness but it is proven to be an effective way to prevent you from gaining a few inches during this festive time. And here is a great trivia, most of the time when you feel hungry, the truth is you are just thirsty. Try gulping a glass of the precious liquid before you fix yourself a snack. With this, you do not have to worry about how your thighs look like when you are wearing your fashion leotards.
  • Cut down you sugar intake. This one will require a lot of self-restraint since you are most likely faced with temptation in the form of those mouthwatering desserts. Well, to make your life easier you just do something like this: if you plan on giving yourself in to a slice of those oh-so moist chocolate cake, refrain from getting yourself a glass of soda.
  • Make the veggie tray your first stop at the buffet table. What makes this time of the year so great is that there are a number of hosts that serve scrumptious vegetable recipes, so you might want to take advantage of this. These green leafy concoctions are great source of fibre which can help you with your metabolism. However, stay away from those dips since they are most likely to contain a hefty number of calories.
  • Get yourself some rest. December can be the busiest month for a lot of people which makes them so stressed out. As a result, they result to binge eating. If you do not want this to happen to you, make sure that you get enough sleep daily. Spend quality time with your bed for at least six to eight hours a day. And do not burden yourself with too much work. To get you mind off things, you can try out a new hobby too! Perhaps, you can start learning how to play the darbuka for example.

With all these simple steps, you would not have to dread the idea of gaining a love handle over the holidays. Remember that these tips maybe easy breezy but you still have to put a lot of self-discipline on to them.
